Halen is situated at the border of the regions called Haspengouw, Hageland and Kempen. This means that each picturesque village Halen, Zelem, Zelk or Loksbergen is offering a different experience. By bike you are passing by the most beautiful places of Halen, well known for its ‘Slag Der Zilveren Helmen’ (‘Battle of the Silver Helmets’ – August 12th, 1914). You can learn everything about World War I in the museum ‘Slag Der Zilveren Helmen’. Zelem has a nice old village centre, but don’t forget to visit the castle grounds of Sint-Jansberg. Starting from the rural museum ‘Reinvoart’ in Loksbergen, you can have wonderful walks through hollow roads and fruit tree orchards. We don’t intend to mention the complete list of all monuments in Halen. At our ‘tourist office’ you will find a ‘Monumentenfolder’ and information about numerous other pearls in the region, a.o. ‘Limburg 1914-1918: This we are – 44 helmets of Limburg’ just to name one.
But if you would like to see mysterious monasteries, unique museums, picturesque water streams, colourful spring blossoms or if you would like to discover the natural water resort ‘Schulensmeer’ and the vineyards of Halen: all can be done. For biking and hiking, this is the ideal location. Several well-outlined routes are passing by your lodgings’ front door.
